Countdown To Event
ABOUT THE CONGRESS
The National Heart Association of Malaysia (NHAM) Annual Scientific Congress is held annually to provide a platform for professionals and researchers to present their most innovative methods and latest research findings in the area of cardiovascular health.
NHAM is thrilled to welcome you back to Kuala Lumpur in 2023 for another exciting cardiovascular congress with over 160 local and international academics attending. The NHAM Congress 2023 will cover all cardiovascular health-related topics, provide a broad view of the industry, and bring together thousands of cardiology professionals from around the world with the shared objective of reducing cardiovascular diseases globally.
Lined up is an exceptional two-and-a-half-day programme to discuss the latest advancements in cardiac-related practices, technology, research, and case sharing with colleagues and friends. The programme will be comprehensive, inspiring, and educational, with extensive content covering clinical practices as well as all other facets of cardiovascular disease, from prevention to treatment.
We are determined to make this year’s congress meeting in person in Kuala Lumpur even more memorable than ever before. You can anticipate engaging presentations by professionals as well as networking sessions where the most recent advancements in cardiovascular practices are discussed.
We are once again excited to welcome participants to attend our congress in person.
Here are some of the highlights for the NHAM Congress 2023:
|
Dr Alan FONG President, 20th NHAM Council | As we transition from a Covid-19 pandemic area, focus returns towards non-communicable diseases, particularly cardiovascular disease, which remains the primary cause of mortality in Malaysia. Over the last 15 years, we have learnt from our National Cardiovascular Disease Registries, the significance of cardiovascular risk factors, particularly diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia and smoking, and their contribution towards the clinical manifestations of cardiovascular disease. In addition, life-threatening conditions, such as acute myocardial infarction and acute decompensated heart failure continue to plague us as a nation. Thankfully, there are new treatments being developed for all these, with important clinical data being released globally almost on a monthly basis. For this, our National Heart Association of Malaysia’s Annual Congress (NHAM Congress) has been the focal point of dissemination of the latest information, the share amongst all healthcare professionals in Malaysia, and overseas. The primary aim would be to acquire knowledge which will lead to improvement of care for our patients and the overall cardiovascular health status of our community. The NHAM Congress 2023, here at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), adds a different element to last year’s event. This year, we will see a return to a full physical conference, with overseas Faculty from over a dozen countries here on site, to bolster the expert local Faculty assembled. While many have ‘Zoom’-ed in virtually in 2022, this year, we look forward to such key opinion leaders being amongst us here in Kuala Lumpur. We welcome all of you in advance – local and foreign participants, who were not able to attend last year’s Congress in person, and have intent on returning in person for NHAM Congress 2023. With education and networking being two hallmarks of our Annual Congress, the third – local scientific content – will add even more spice to our proceedings. This Congress has been the main national platform for healthcare professionals to present their guidelines, research, and reports - we look forward to more of this! In this post-COVID-19 pandemic era, our community have all been sensitised to a new-normal, from healthcare professionals, our patients, policy-makers, and the public at risk of heart disease. We are all embracing a digital world, coupled with accelerated development of healthcare technologies. The digital frontier is upon us, particularly in diagnostics – from wearables to AI-powered healthcare software, and precision therapeutics. For this and all the other elements that have made our Congress the highlight of your professional educational calendar, NHAM Congress 2023’s Organising Chairperson Dr Gary Lee and Scientific Chairperson Dr Cham Yee Ling, together with their excellent team, will bring you our best Annual Congress yet! On behalf of the NHAM Council, I look forward to welcoming all of you to the NHAM Congress 2023 – a cardiovascular summit at the centre of your calendar – see you on 16 June 2023 in Kuala Lumpur! |
Greetings and Warmest Welcome to NHAM Annual Scientific Meeting 2023! It has been an amazing experience to be part of the team to spearhead one of the largest scientific meetings in the country. My team and I have learned to navigate various obstacles and weather many challenges in organizing this meeting. A common goal in medical learning binds us together in working earnestly towards making this meeting a great success. In the year 2022, we have crafted a comprehensive scientific program for our delegates. End results were very encouraging, evidenced by the positive feedback received. This motivates us to push ourselves further in making NHAM ASM 2023 even more astounding. NHAM has always been at the forefront of innovation and creativity in medical learning. Therefore, we can witnessed how the scientific programs have evolved over the years. Novel programs are constantly put in place to enhance the learning opportunities of medical professionals from different disciplines. In addition, our faculties have grown to encompass local, regional and international speaker. This year we continue to craft the scientific programs to be all-inclusive and comprehensive. Exciting topics are delivered through various modalities that revolutionized medical learning. We strongly believe that there is something in store for everyone attending the scientific meeting. This scientific meeting provides a framework and platform for us to meet, share and learn from each other. Let us together ignite our passion for lifelong learning and enhance our knowledge in the field of cardiovascular medicine. Welcome to NHAM ASM 2023, and have a fruitful and fun-filled meeting with friends and colleagues. |
Dear colleagues and friends, I remember not so long ago that I was a fresh-faced medical officer attending my very first NHAM annual scientific meeting. Clutching the program booklet in my hands, I was spoilt for choice. Which one? The hypertension lecture that would refine the way I practice, the session on late-breaking trials to keep myself updated on the advances in cardiology or the specialised cardiology symposium to glean what was being practised in cardiology centers? Did you feel the same way? At every stage in my career as a medical officer, physician and later, cardiologist, the NHAM annual meeting continues to be relevant in my practice. Such is the mission of NHAM in imparting cardiovascular education to all, and every scientific chairperson before me has ensured that in a program that has something for everyone. I hope I have done the same with this edition of the NHAM Congress. While retaining the time- proven format of didactic lectures on important core topics in cardiology, there will be case-based sessions spotlighting common cardiology problems in primary care and implementation of the latest heart failure and dyslipidemia CPGs. There will be a blockbuster debate on one of the hottest topics in cardiology today, so don’t miss it! For the fellows-in-training, there will be a special session for sharing fellowship experiences in different cardiology sub specialties in various countries. For some nail-biting educational fun, join us at the Premier Cup competition. Finally, for the first time since 2019, we are delighted to welcome back our international faculty in person. |
