President, 22nd NHAM Council

Our National Heart Association of Malaysia’s (NHAM) Congress 2026 returns, and to Kuala Lumpur, following our hosting of the 29th ASEAN Federation of Cardiology Congress (AFCC) in Penang last year. The energy gained from the AFCC has provided greater momentum for this year’s Congress!
NHAM’s main thrust of promoting quality cardiovascular care to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in Malaysia is reflected in the education and research that you will experience at NHAM Congress 2026. An energetic new Organising Committee led by Dr Akmal Hakim Arshad, and the Congress Scientific Chairperson Dr Raja Ezman Faridz Raja Shariff have hit the ground running to bring to you an educational spectacle of cardiology which will live long in memory.
Over the last 4 years, the 3 editions of the NHAM Congress have grown from strength to strength, with a growing number of participants, both domestic and international, to meet the ever-expanding reach of cardiovascular science. We have addressed both contemporary and new areas of cardiology – and this will continue at NHAM Congress 2026 – topics such as cardiomyopathies, obesity, dyslipidaemia, precision therapeutics and artificial intelligence. Our distinguished Faculty, from ASEAN and across the world, will augment local key opinion leaders, to power up our Program!
Beyond education and research, NHAM Congress 2026 will be hub whereby the cardiology ecosystem will make yet another leap to greater heights – the opportunity to network, inspire new ideas and initiatives, and improve every stakeholder’s investment of time and energy in this field. To really translate science into practice, and improve cardiovascular outcomes of our patients, will require greater and alignment of everyone in this cardiovascular space. Where and when to do it better, than at NHAM Congress 2026.
NHAM, the umbrella organisation that is also home to the Cardiology community in Malaysia, and its 7 sub-societies - ICSM, MPCS, MSA, MSCVT, MHRS, SCIM and WH2O - welcomes all of you to our flagship event. NHAM Congress will also see the launch of new National Clinical Practice Guidelines, a report from our National Cardiovascular Disease Registry and the Convocation ceremony for the Fellowship of the National Heart Association of Malaysia (FNHAM).
With such an exciting agenda on the horizon, on behalf of the 21st Council of the NHAM, let me welcome all of you to NHAM Congress 2026, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, on 8-10 May!

Dr Akmal Hakim ARSHAD |
Dear Colleagues and Friends, It is with great joy and heartfelt anticipation that I welcome you, on behalf of the Organising Committee and National Heart Association of Malaysia (NHAM), to the NHAM Congress 2026, taking place from 8–10 May 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Over the years, the NHAM Congress has grown into the largest annual gathering of cardiologists and physicians in Malaysia, and a key meeting point for the cardiovascular community across the ASEAN region. This year, we celebrate the spirit of collaboration and the power of connection — uniting expertise, disciplines, and nations in our shared mission to improve cardiovascular health. Led by our Congress Scientific Chairperson, Dr. Raja Ezman Raja Shariff, this year’s scientific programme promises to be one of our most exciting yet. We are honoured to host joint sessions with international partners including the American College of Cardiology (ACC), European Society of Cardiology (ESC), Japan Circulation Society (JCS), Korean Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis (KSLA, and the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology (APSC)-reflecting our commitment to global collaboration and learning. NHAM Congress 2026 will also feature several important national highlights, including the launch of new Clinical Practice Guidelines and the presentation of the latest findings from our National Cardiovascular Disease (NCVD) Registry — both crucial in shaping evidence-based cardiovascular care in Malaysia. We are especially proud of our growing focus on young talents and fellows-in-training. Look forward to the lively NHAM Premier Cup quiz, the hands-on Training Village, and our popular “Jingle and Mingle” networking sessions — designed to connect, mentor, and inspire the next generation of cardiology leaders. Equally important, we are expanding our programme to celebrate the entire cardiovascular care team. This year’s congress will feature dedicated sessions led by various multidisciplinary experts — all working together towards our common goal of excellence in cardiovascular patient care. Whether you are a physicians, general practitioner, fellow-in-training, researcher, or allied health professional, NHAM Congress 2026 is your platform — to learn, to share, to connect, and to be inspired. We can’t wait to welcome you to Kuala Lumpur for three remarkable days of science, friendship, and collaboration — as we continue building bridges, breaking barriers, and reaching beyond borders together. |

Dr Raja Ezman Faridz RAJA SHARIFF |
On behalf of the organizing committee, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you ALL to NHAM Congress 2026. In keeping with this year’s theme of “Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges, Beyond Borders”, the focus of our congress will be on the sharing of cardiovascular knowledge and development with multiple disciplines, regardless of level of experience or geographical boundaries. In this era of digital health, where knowledge is ever accessible, the need for collaborative, interdisciplinary research is more critical than ever. The program we have curated showcases a wide array of groundbreaking cardiovascular science, ranging from the latest updates in coronary artery disease & atherosclerosis to heart failure & cardiomyopathies. Building from previous feedback, we have also incorporated sessions focused on case-based discussions – aptly named ‘Case-Based Cardiology Workshops’, as well as sessions dedicated to early career cardiologist (i.e., Kopi O Peng & Teh Tarik sessions) and fellows-in-training (i.e., Trainee Bootcamp & Putting Trials to the Test). This is on top of our annual offerings of the Heart Failure Research Award, Young Investigator Award, Moderated Poster & Clinical Cases Sessions and (the much anticipated) NHAM Premier Cup! Furthermore, it gives me great pleasure to announce that for NHAM Congress 2026, we anticipate an exceptional gathering of minds from around the globe for this year’s congress, evident from our many joint symposium sessions with both regional and international societies. This is a true testament to NHAM’s willingness and openness to network with our international colleagues, while charting the course of cardiovascular care, one beat at a time. Hasta Pronto… À bientôt… A più tardi… !!!
